Basin Area Chamber Happenings: by Barbara Anne
As the end of the year draws near, it is time to reflect on what we have
accomplished and want to still accomplish. Making the town cleaner and more
attractive is important to attracting new businesses to this area.
This is an ongoing goal of the chamber. We did two highway clean ups.
This summer there were flower pots up and down main street.
The FFA class at Riverside High School grew and planted the flowers.
The "Chamber pots" were a mixture of clay pots and plastic green pots.
We hope to have all clay pots next year. Your chamber dues allows us to do
these type of things.
The chamber is a huge resource to businesses and people. Each day we get
calls asking information about services, stores, rentals, real estate, etc.
Here is a good example.
The contractor that remodeled the LDS Church between
Basin and Greybull called the chamber before they started. They needed
contact info for a business that could bring more dumpsters to the church.
Roadrunner Sanitation is a member so we were able to supply the contact info
to the contractor.
Our newest project is Adopt a Bench. For $500 you can adopt a bench to be
placed on one of the two main streets in Basin. Each bench you adopt will
have a plaque that says what you want on it (within reason). Examples would
be "In memory of" or "_______ Family Bench" or "In honor of". Or if you are
a business you may put your business name on it. The benches will look like
wood but will be made of a strong resin slats and iron.
The Welcome to Basin signs are another on-going project. Design Time of
Basin, came up with the winning design. Our next step is to find someone to
build it as it includes some masonry work and solar light installation.
We will apply for a grant from the Wyoming Travel and Tourism board.
The grant is a reimbursable type of grant. Which means we will have to
work with the town or a business to get the money to complete the sign
first then repay them with the grant monies. Complicated but doable.
We certified the kitchen so that home based businesses could make their
items here. This gave them the opportunity to sell their goods at
Farmer's markets, special events or on line. It is a small but important
project for the chamber.
If you have ideas or what to be involved please call or email.
The more the merrier. Thank you for your past support.
We look forward to a great new year.
